Highlights of This Itinerary

Overview: Sothern part of Sri Lanka is enriched with many tourist attractions including nice sandy beaches, historical temples, wild life and some wonderful world heritage sites such as Galle Fort. Visiting southern part of Sri Lanka is very famous among the tourists due to these different type of experiences that they can get.


DAY 1: AIRPORT / NEGOMBO

On arrival at the Bandaranaike International airport, you will be warmly greeted by your very own guide and transferred to Negombo (Approx. 30 minutes drive). Spend the rest of the day at leisure relaxing and enjoying the hotel facilities.

 

Spend one overnight at Jetwing Blue. Accommodation is in a Deluxe room with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 2NEGOMBO / BERUWALA / BALAPITIYA / BENTOTA

After a leisurely breakfast you will be transferred to Beruwala (Approx. 3 hours drive).

 

Geoffrey Bawa was one of the great architects of the 20th century. Most of his work was in his homeland of Sri Lanka but he also worked in India, Bali, Japan, Fiji, Egypt, and Singapore. In 1947 he bought and abandoned rubber estate which was slowly transformed into a country home and magnificent garden. The nearby Brief Garden was established by Geoffrey's elder brother Bevis Bawa from 1929 and covers 5 acres. More formal and elaborate than Lunaganga, these two gardens by two remarkable brothers are complementary neighbours.

After lunch, you will be transferred to Balapitiya (approx. 30 minutes) to discover the unique beauty of MADU GANGA nature on a boat trip. Admire various birds, the water warans, even crocodiles and the mind-blowing mangroves. Visit a cinnamon farmer, an ancient temple on a small island, a fish farm and the marvelous floating red and white lotus flower fields.

 

Spend overnight at Avani Bentota. Accommodation is in Standard room with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 3BENTOTA / HIYARE / BENTOTA

After breakfast, proceed to Hiyare Rain Forest (approx. 1 hour drive).

 

Hiyare rainforest bordered by the Hiyare reservoir is a secondary lowland rainforest with a high diversity and endemism of species that spans over 600 acres in Galle district. This rainforest is a magnificent destination for bird watching along with 118 bird species, 33 freshwater fish species, 78 butterfly species, 55 dragonfly species, 34 reptile species, 18 amphibian species, 28 land snail species and 29 mammal species. The Hog Deer is one of the distinctive attractions of this place.

 

Transfer to Galle and visit Dutch Fort. Galle Fort was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. It is a World Heritage Site, which even after more than 423 years is full of live with cafés, homes, galleries and boutiques.


Spend overnight at Avani Bentota. Accommodation is in Standard room with ensuite facilities. Your stay is on bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 4: BEACH

After breakfast, spend the full day at at leisure relaxing and enjoying the beach

DAY 5 BENTOTA / YALA

After breakfast, drive to Yala (approx. 5hrs), en route visit Mulkirigala Temple- Mulkirigala is an imposing rock with remarkable cave temples located 21km north from the town of Tangalle in the district of Hambantota. This enormous boulder known as ‘little Sigiriya” rises almost perpendicularly for over 200 metres out of the surrounding palm forest .Mulkirigala consists of a series of rock temples carved out of the face of a huge rock outcrop built in the 2nd Century. B.C. Mulkirigala Viharaya is a Buddhist temple complex that ascends and crowns the rock. It is a temple of great antiquity with fine murals. In these rock temples, the British colonial administrator, George Turner, discovered an ancient manuscript, Mahavamsa, the great chronicle, in 1826.

 

On arrival check in at Cinnamon Wild.

 

Spend overnight at Cinnamon Wild. Accommodation is in Jungle Chalets with ensuite facilities. Your stay on bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 6: YALA NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast, Proceed to the national Park on a safari to witness the wild life inhabiting the Yala National Park. The Yala National Park is mainly famous for its leopards. The best chance to see a leopard is generally first thing in the morning and then again at dusk. The male leopards there are very confident animals and they are often seen walking the tracks during the day. Young males in Particular seem to have no fear of the jeep which can lead to some excellent photographic opportunities.

 

Your second Safari for the day will start at 1500hrs from the Hotel by the same jeep; this will give you another chance to visit Leopards if you could not see them in the morning.

DAY 7: YALA / COLOMBO

After a leisurely breakfast you will be driven to Colombo (Approx. 6 hrs drive)


Spend overnight at Cinnamon Lake SideAccommodation is in Deluxe room with ensuite facilities. Your stay on bed & breakfast basis.

DAY 8  : COLOMBO / NEGOMBO / AIRPORT

Today after breakfast you will be transferred back to airport (Approx. 01 hour & 15 minutes drive) for your flight back home
